IICF Women in Insurance Conference Series: Be a Part of the Conversation

The IICF Women in Insurance Conference Series, launched in 2013 by the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation, is the largest diversity and inclusion initiative in the insurance industry.  With more than 4,300 industry professionals having attended, and an additional 1,500 anticipated in June, IICF is reaching a diverse and growing audience of leaders who are shaping a future in the industry that is reflective of its workforce, its customers and the rapidly evolving marketplace in general.

IICF will host four, one-day Regional Forums throughout the month of June, in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York.  Each event will focus on specific themes of leadership and today’s innovative workplace and feature a dynamic line up of acclaimed speakers who are leaders in their fields of business, technology, academia and more.  What the Forums have in common is the objective of advancing the many and varied aspects of diversity and inclusion in the industry and bringing together those who see the great value in welcoming an array of voices and perspectives.

Greater diversity and inclusion at every level of the industry, from those just beginning their careers to senior executives in the C-Suite, is proven not only to be a best practice from a human resources perspective, but good for the bottom line as well.  The goal of the Regional Forums is to empower all who attend to be the best they can be. Although the original target audience of the conference series was women of all ages who were serious about their careers, we have always welcomed and encouraged men to attend.  In 2018, we hope to extend that invitation to women and men once again with the goal of attracting leaders and potential leaders of the industry – anyone who understands that innovation and change are key to the future and those who believe in being able to do what they aspire to do – without boundaries or barriers.

With time at a premium in everyone’s schedule, it’s important to understand the value of attending.  IICF’s Women in Insurance Regional Forums have positioned the insurance industry at the forefront of the national conversation on diversity, inclusion and leadership by:

  • Exploring powerful and relevant topics affecting the industry today and into the future
  • Providing outstanding networking opportunities
  • Facilitating creative workshop and learning exercises
  • Bringing together women and men, at all career levels, to identify challenges, opportunities and solutions
  • Delivering resources and an empowering experience for all who attend!

Industry leaders who’ve attended the IICF Women in Insurance Regional Forums in the past speak highly of the value they deliver and return year after year. Our post-conference surveys consistently indicate extremely high satisfaction with the speakers, content and networking opportunities, and nearly 100% of respondents will recommend to a colleague and attend again in the future.

Barbara Bufkin, Chair of the IICF Board of Governors and Executive Head of Business Development, Commercial Lines, at Assurant, shared her experience:

Having been involved in IICF’s Women in Insurance Conference Series from its very origin, what we may have considered a ‘nice to do if our schedules allowed’, is now a must attend.  It’s important to realize that we cannot always solve problems alone or by working harder. We have to be more thoughtful. We have to build networks and appreciate the help they provide to us. Building our networks is now a core component of our ability to do our jobs well and to individually grow.

Bufkin and other industry leaders point to the value and insights the Forums provide, as well as the skills, inspirations and friendships they take away from the event.
